Ngozi Place is a special program lead by owner and director Sonya Golden. It is special as it is lead by a passion to serve those who Sonya calls “Gods people”. We focus on providing the highest level of care possible for people with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities.

Did you know as much as 50% of businesses fail by their first 5 years? Did you know the American Disability Act was passed on July 26th, 1990 making the document YOUNGER than half of our clients? Did you know a year and half into operation in March 2020 a global pandemic was announced bringing the world to a screeching stand still? It is a blessing to be here, and continue to serve our clients through adversity.

No one could imagine nor fathom the lengths our director goes to ensure she is creating stability and comfortable homes for the clients she serves, and also the staff in providing quality employment opportunities. Sonya has always advocated for her clients and the staff who show up consistently to meet the needs and care of the wonderful people we call our clients.

While the labor rate paid by the state is scheduled to increase from $8.11/hourly to $10.60/hourly in September 2025, our director has taken measures to ensure we can offer our staff a starting pay of $12 since 2022.

We are also adding several layers of training to improve the results of direct care for our clients. Our clients deserve the best, and through training and investing in our staff, we strive to produce the best staff in HCS.

We are acutely aware of the challenges that comes with being responsible for a community. At time of this short document being published, Ngozi Place is responsible for the following;

50+ clients, an Average of 40+ staff members, 10 group homes, 1 office and day center and all the bills that come along with that amount of people and responsibility.

The growth that we have experienced is a testament to the Faith of our director Sonya Golden, the resilience of our clients (some of which have been with us for 10 years+), and the dedication of the staff who fill the needs of our clients.

We know that life does not necessarily become easier, you adapt to the challenges you face and gain wisdom. As of October 1st, 2024 we have been in operation for 5 years. Here’s to year six, and a reminder to slow down and remember to plant your seeds for next season. The journey begins with one foot in front of the other. During this pause in 2024, we will also be moving to our new OFFICE and DAY CENTER located at 5516 Brentwood Stair Road, Fort Worth, TX 76112.

We plan on having our first day of ISS in the new building on January 3rd.

Ngozi Place will now began “pausing” all non - essential program functions annually to assess the year, and plan for any necessary updates that will need to be implemented at the top of the following year during our annual training sessions. At this time December 7th, 2024 from 11:59PM - January 6th, 2025 8:00AM and the subsequent (estimate month) will be used as a period of reflection and planting seeds for the development of what the next year shall hold. For our clients, we will use this time to rest, reset, and revamp for the better execution in delivering services.
